Takahashi Mototane
Year of death: October 9, 1614 (November 10, 1614)
Year of birth: 1571
A feudal lord in the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo periods. The second son of Akizuki Tanezane of Chikuzen (Fukuoka prefecture). He was adopted by Takahashi Akitane and took the surname Takahashi. He was the younger brother of Akizuki Tanenaga, the first lord of Takanabe Domain in Hyuga (Miyazaki prefecture). He was the first lord of Nobeoka (prefecture) Domain with a stipend of 53,000 koku. He entered the domain in 1587 from Kahuran-dake in Buzen. He fought in both the Bunroku and Keicho Wars (1592 and 1597). In the Battle of Sekigahara, he initially belonged to the Western Army, but later surrendered to Tokugawa Ieyasu and was granted relief from his domain. In 1613, he was implicated in a case involving the concealment of a criminal involving Tomita Nobutaka, and was stripped of his title. He was first entrusted to Tachibana Muneshige of Yanagawa in Chikuzen, and later to Niwa Wakasa-no-kami of Sakakura in Oshu, where he died while away from home. His eldest son, Sakyo, was also exiled, and the Takahashi clan of Nobeoka ended in one generation. <References> “Higa History”
