A Chinese thinker from the Song dynasty. His pen name was Kang Hou. His posthumous name was Wending, and he was called Master Wuyi. He was from Chong'an, Jianzhou (Fujian Province). He was a Jinshi in 1097 (4th year of Shaosheng) during the Northern Song dynasty. He was a Doctor of Grand Studies and rose through the ranks to become a Jushizhong (court attendant). He was inspired by the two main scholars of Song dynasty, Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi, and established his own style of learning. The Hu clan produced such great Confucian scholars as Yin (1098-1156) and Hong (1106-1162). This was called the Hu School of Hunan Studies, and was reintroduced by Zhu Xi (Zhu Xi), Zhang Shuo, and others. His works include the Wuyi Shu, Zizhi Tong Jianju Yao Supplement (both now lost), and the 30-volume Spring and Autumn Annals. The Spring and Autumn Annals of Hu Shi Zhuan was completed during the turbulent period at the beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty. It was heavily colored by nationalistic passion and advocated revenge against the barbarians, and was abolished during the Qing Dynasty, but during the Yuan and Ming dynasties it was highly valued as a classic tradition on a par with the three traditions of the Spring and Autumn Annals (Zuo Shi Zhuan, Gongyang Zhuan, and Gu Liang Zhuan), and was widely circulated.
