Adsorption indicator - Kyusyu Kushiyaku

An indicator used in precipitation titrations to determine the endpoint of a titration not by a change in the color of the solution, but by a change in color due to adsorption to the surface of the precipitate. For example, adding 2-3 drops of fluorescein solution to a silver nitrate solution leaves the solution yellow with no color change, but when ^Cl- is added to the solution, the silver ions adsorbed to the precipitated AgCl react with the fluorescein, causing the solution to turn red to pink. Dichlorofluorescein and dibromofluorescein are also used.

沈殿滴定において，溶液の色の変化ではなく，沈殿表面への吸着による色の変化で滴定終点を決定する指示薬．たとえば，硝酸銀溶液にフルオレセイン溶液を2～3滴加えても色の変化はなく黄色であるが，これに Cl^－ を加えると，沈殿したAgClに吸着されている銀イオンとフルオレセインが反応して赤～ピンク色に変色する．ジクロロフルオレセイン，ジブロモフルオレセインなども使用される．
