Zhu Zaiyi (English name)

Japanese: 朱載堉 - しゅさいいく（英語表記）Zhū Zài yù

A Chinese scholar of calendars and music. He lived during the Shenzong period of the Ming dynasty (1573-1619). His pen name was Boqin, his title was Kuqushanren, and he was called Prince Zheng. He was the son of Zhu Hou, grandson of Emperor Renzong 5. His father was bestowed the title of King Zheng during the Jiajing period (1522-66), but was accused of treason and temporarily stripped of his title. He was later reinstated, but Zayu was so angry that he shut himself up at home for 19 years. After his father's death, he abdicated his title and devoted himself to the study of lute and numerology, writing the Complete Book of Music and Lucidity and dedicating it to Emperor Shenzong. The Complete Book of Music and Law was created in response to Emperor Shenzong's attempt to revive gagaku, and contains 48 volumes in total, including 4 volumes of New Theory of Vinaya, 1 volume of New Theory of Music, 1 volume of New Theory of Mathematics, 10 volumes of the inner volume and 10 volumes of the outer volume of the Essential Theory of Vinaya, 1 volume of Ancient Music for Caolio, 1 volume of Hexagonal Music, 6 volumes of Countryside Drinking Poetry Music, 1 volume of Small Dance Music of the Six Dynasties, 1 volume of Small Dance Countryside Music, 1 volume of Two-Hole Triumph Map, 3 volumes of Small Dance Music of the Lingxing Stars, and 8 volumes of three types of calendar books. It is a representative collection of Chinese music books.

中国の暦法･楽律学者。明代神宗朝(1573‐1619)の人。字は伯勤，号は句曲山人，鄭世子と称した。仁宗5世の孫，朱厚（しゆこうかん）の世子。父は嘉靖年間(1522‐66)に鄭王の爵位を授けられたが，無実の反逆罪に問われて一時爵位を削られた。のちに復爵したが，載堉はそれを怒って19年間家に閉じこもった。父の没後爵位を他に譲り，律数の学問に没頭し，《楽律全書》を著して神宗に献呈した。《楽律全書》は，神宗による雅楽復興の試みに応じたもので，《律学新説》4巻，《楽学新説》1巻，《算学新説》1巻，《律呂精義》内編10巻･外編10巻，《操縵古楽譜》1巻，《旋宮合楽譜》1巻，《郷飲詩楽譜》6巻，《六代小舞譜》1巻，《小舞郷楽譜》1巻，《二佾綴兆図》1巻，《霊星小舞譜》3巻，暦法の書3種8巻，計48巻あり，中国の音楽書の代表的なものである。
