A mountain range that runs from northeast to southwest near the east coast (Japan Sea side) of the northeastern part of the Korean Peninsula. The mountain range is made up of granite gneiss and granite. Within the range, there are 2000m-class high peaks such as Gwanmo-bong (2541m), Korea's second highest mountain, Tojeongsan (2201m), Jikujo-bong (2277m), and Mantapsan (2205m), making it the so-called Korean Alps.
