This refers to a structure in which the orientation of crystal grains is aligned in a specific direction through strong processing, heat treatment, deposition, etc. In this case, the structure as a whole is also considered to be a bundle of crystal grains in a specific direction, so it is also called a fibrous structure. In a broad sense, the polycrystalline structure of metals is also a texture, but usually it means an oriented structure. The orientation of the texture varies depending on the type of metal, the crystal lattice type, and the processing method, and the orientation and degree of fiberization are examined by X-ray diffraction. Columnar crystals that appear on the surface of an ingot are also an example of a texture. In strong processing such as wire drawing, strong rolling, and forging, the orientation of the crystal grains is aligned to the inside, and a typical fibrous structure is shown. When this is manifested macroscopically, it is called a strain streamline structure. Recrystallized grains caused by heating after strong processing often show a fibrous structure, which is used in the manufacture of anisotropic silicon steel sheets and anisotropic magnet steel (→MK steel).

強い加工，熱処理，蒸着などによって結晶粒の方位がそろってある特定方向をとる組織をいう。この場合組織は全体として，特定方向の結晶粒を束ねたようにもみなされるので，繊維組織ともいう。広義には金属の多結晶組織も集合組織であるが，普通は方位性の組織を意味する。集合組織の方位は金属の種類，結晶格子型，加工の仕方によって変化があり，その方位と繊維化の程度はX線回折法で検定される。鋳塊の表層に現れる柱状晶も集合組織の一例である。線引き，強い圧延や鍛造などの強加工では内部まで結晶粒方位がそろい，典型的な繊維組織を示す。これがマクロ的に現れたものをひずみ流線組織という。強加工後加熱による再結晶粒が繊維組織を示すことも多く，これは異方性ケイ素鋼板，異方性磁石鋼 (→MK鋼 ) の製造に利用されている。
