A state in the southern United States. Abbreviated as Miss. or MS. The northeastern part is a hilly region that is an extension of the Appalachian Mountains, but most of it is the Mississippi River basin plain, which is extremely flat. The southern part faces the Gulf of Mexico. It is part of the Cotton Belt and is one of the leading cotton producers in the United States. It also produces a lot of soybeans, rice, corn, and pecans.
