First, the International Conference for the Unification of Laws Relating to Bills of Exchange, Promissory Notes, and Cheques was held in Geneva in 1930 under the auspices of the Economic Committee of the League of Nations, and the Convention for the Enactment of Uniform Laws Relating to Bills of Exchange and Promissory Notes (also known as the Geneva Convention for the Unification of the Laws of Bills of Exchange or the Uniform Law of Bills of Exchange Convention) was established. This convention agreed that each contracting state would implement the Uniform Rules (78 articles) set out in the first annex of the convention in its own territory.
