Nihon-daira

This refers to the flat land at the summit of Mt. Udo (307 meters) in Shizuoka City, central Shizuoka Prefecture. It is one of the diluvial plateaus that continue to the Tokai region, and is a plateau formed by the uplift of the Shizuoka Shimizu Plain formed by the Abe River. The southern side is a steep sea cliff topography, facing Suruga Bay from Udohama, and the area below the cliff is a production area of ​​Ishigaki strawberries. The eastern side is also steep and faces Shimizu Port, but the northern and western sides are gentle slopes and tea and mandarin orchards spread out. It is known as an excellent observation deck with a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the Izu Peninsula, and was ranked first in the 100 Best Tourist Spots of Japan in 1950 (Showa 25). It was designated a national place of scenic beauty in 1959, and is also a prefectural natural park. In the eastern part, there is Shimizu Nihondaira Sports Park, which includes Nihondaira Stadium, and in the western part, there is Ikedayama Nature Park, which is centered around Nihondaira Zoo. A ropeway connects the shrine to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, which is associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu.

静岡県中部、静岡市にある有度山(うどやま)（307メートル）山頂平坦(へいたん)地をさす。東海地方に連続する洪積台地の一つで、安倍(あべ)川によって形成された静岡清水平野が隆起した台地。南側は急傾斜の海食崖(がい)の地形で、有度浜から駿河(するが)湾に面し、崖下は石垣イチゴの産地である。東側も急斜面で清水港に面するが、北と西側は緩やかな斜面で、茶園、ミカン園が広がる。富士山、駿河湾、伊豆半島を一望のもとに収める優れた展望台として知られ、1950年（昭和25）日本観光地百選で第1位になり、1959年に国の名勝に指定され、また県立自然公園にもなっている。東部には日本平スタジアムをもつ清水日本平運動公園、西部には日本平動物園を中心にした池田山自然公園がある。徳川家康ゆかりの久能山東照宮(くのうざんとうしょうぐう)との間はロープウェーで結ばれている。
