Peculiar asteroid

There is no specific definition, but it refers to asteroids with unusual characteristics. For example, (1) asteroids with particularly large diameters, such as asteroids 1 Ceres, 2 Pallas, and 4 Vesta, (2) asteroids 944 Hidalgo, whose semi-major axis is outside the orbit of Jupiter (5.3 AU) and whose eccentricity and inclination are large, and asteroid 2060 Chiron, whose semi-major axis is 13.7 AU, (3) asteroid 1566 Icarus, which is particularly close to the Earth among the Apollo asteroids, (4) asteroids that show large variations in light, such as asteroid 433 Eros and a Trojan asteroid 624 Hector, (5) asteroids that may have moons, such as asteroid 532 Herculina, and (6) asteroids whose orbits are in a numerical relationship with the mean motion of Jupiter, such as the Hilda asteroids.

特別な定義があるわけではないが、一般的でない特徴をもつ小惑星のことをいう。たとえば、(1)その直径がとくに大きな、1番セレス、2番パラス、4番ベスタ、(2)軌道長半径が木星軌道（5.3天文単位）より外側で、離心率や軌道傾斜角の大きな944番ヒダルゴ、軌道長半径が13.7天文単位の2060番チロン、(3)アポロ群小惑星のなかでもとくに地球に近づいた1566番イカルス、(4)同じくアポロ群小惑星433番エロスやトロヤ群小惑星624番ヘクターのように大きな変光を示す小惑星、(5)532番ヘルクリナのような衛星をもつかもしれない小惑星、(6)ヒルダ群小惑星のように木星の平均運動と尽数(じんすう)関係にある軌道上の小惑星、などがあげられる。
