Adana - Nickname (English spelling) Adana

A city in the southeastern part of the Asia Minor peninsula in Turkey. The capital of Adana province. It is located in the fertile delta of the Ceyhan and Ceyhan rivers, the Cukuroba plain. With a population of 1,130,710 (2,000), it is the fifth largest city in Turkey. Located in the Cukuroba plain, Turkey's largest cotton-producing region, the city distributes cotton, wheat, citrus fruits, vegetables, and fruits. With electricity supplied from the nearby Ceyhan Dam, industries such as cotton spinning, cottonseed oil, olive oil, and cement have also developed. It is a key point for rail and road transportation, and has an airport, with international flights to Baghdad in Iraq and Nicosia in Cyprus. In ancient times, it was a Roman military base, and after it fell into decline, it was restored in 782 by Harun al-Rashid of the Abbasid dynasty. It became part of the Ottoman Turks in 1515. There are ruins in the city, such as a stone bridge built in the 2nd century. 75 km to the east are the sites of the Battle of Issus, where Alexander the Great defeated Darius III of Persia.
