Chari River (English spelling)

Japanese: シャリ[川]（英語表記）Chari River

A river that flows through central Africa. It originates from the Bamiongui River in the mountains of the central Central African Republic, and flows into the Republic of Chad after collecting many tributaries. It then flows northwestward and merges with the Logonou River near the capital, N'Djamena, before flowing into the southern shore of Lake Chad, forming the border with the United Republic of Cameroon. It has a total length of 1,400 km and a drainage area of 880,000 km2. It floods in the rainy season, and many swamps can be seen in the basin. In the lower reaches where it flows into Lake Chad, it branches off into a wide delta, where cotton and other crops are cultivated.

アフリカ中央部を流れる川。中央アフリカ共和国中部の山地に発するバミンギ川を源流とし，多くの支流を集めてチャド共和国に入る。さらに北西流して首都ヌジャメナ付近でロゴヌ川と合流し，カメルーン連合共和国との国境を形成しながらチャド湖南岸に流入する。全長1400km，流域面積88万km2。雨季には氾濫し，流域に多くの沼沢地が見られる。チャド湖に注ぐ下流部では分流となって広いデルタを形成しており，デルタでは綿花などが栽培される。
