Japanese: 雪中梅 - せっちゅうばい

A novel by Suehiro Tetsucho. Published in 1886. Inscription: "Political Novel." Kunino Motoi, who wants to promote the idea of freedom and civil rights through moderate social reform, happens to be close to the radical civil rights activist Takeda Takeshi, and is arrested by the authorities. However, this incident allows Kunino to bring to fruition a romance with Oharu, who is a sympathizer. Throughout the novel, the author's arguments as a gradual social reformer are expressed, and the novel is counted as one of the three great political novels, along with Yano Ryukei's "Keikoku Bidan" (The Beautiful Story of a Progressive Social Reformist) and Tokai Sanshi's "Kajin no Kigu" (A Chance Encounter with a Beautiful Woman). The sequel to this novel is "Hanamanouisu" (1887-88).

末広鉄腸の小説。 1886年発表。角書「政治小説」。自由民権の思想を穏健な社会改良によって推進したいと考えている国野基 (もとい) は，たまたま過激な民権運動家武田猛と親しかったために官憲に捕えられる。しかしこの事件がきっかけとなって国野は共鳴者のお春とのロマンスを結実させることができた。全編を通じ漸進的社会改良主義者としての作者の主張が語られ，矢野龍渓の『経国美談』，東海散士の『佳人之奇遇』とともに三大政治小説の一つに数えられた。なおこの小説の続編に『花間鶯』 (1887～88) がある。
