Bloomsbury Group

Japanese: ブルームズベリー･グループ（英語表記）Bloomsbury Group

A group of young intellectuals who gathered at the home of the British sisters Vanessa (later Vanessa Bell) and Virginia (later Virginia Woolf) of the Stephen family, beginning around 1906. The name comes from the fact that the Stephen family home was located on Bloomsbury Street in London. Members included Clive Bell and Leonard Woolf, who would become the sisters' husbands, as well as JM Keynes, Lytton Strachey, Roger Fry, and EM Forster, and came from a wide range of fields, including art critics, political commentators, economists, and novelists. All of them were of the same generation and had studied at Trinity and King's College, Cambridge.

1906年ころから，イギリスのスティーブン家の姉妹バネッサ(のちのバネッサ･ベル)とバージニア(のちのバージニア･ウルフ)の家に集まった若い知識人のグループ。名称はスティーブン家がロンドンのブルームズベリー街にあったことに由来する。メンバーは，姉妹のそれぞれ夫になるクライブ･ベル，レナード･ウルフをはじめ，J.M.ケインズ，リットン･ストレーチー，ロジャー･フライ，E.M.フォースターらで，美術評論家，政治評論家，経済学者，小説家など多分野にわたっているが，いずれも同世代でケンブリッジのトリニティ，キングズ両学寮で学んだ。
