Matua Island (English spelling)
An elliptical volcanic island in the central Kuril Islands, on the eastern edge of the Russian Federation. Its Japanese name is Matsuwa Island. It is separated to the south by the Nadezhta Strait (Roshowa Strait) from Rashua Island, and to the north by the Golovnin Strait from Raikoke Island. Its long axis from northeast to southwest is 14 km long, its circumference is 32 km, and its area is 53 km2. It is a volcanic island formed by the eruption of the active volcano Mount Sarychevo (Mount Fuyou, 1,446 m) in the center, and its base juts out to the southeast, topped by the parasitic volcano Mount Tengai (127 m).

ロシア連邦東端,千島列島中部にある楕円形の火山島。日本名は松輪島。南はナデージタ海峡(羅処和海峡)を隔ててラシュア(羅処和)島に,北はゴロブニン(古老仁)海峡を隔ててライコケ(雷公計)島に対する。北東~南西の長軸の長さ14km,周囲32km,面積53km2。中央部に活火山のサリチェボ山(芙蓉山。1446m)が噴出して形成された火山島で,南東方向にすそ野を張り出し,そこに寄生火山天蓋山(127m)をのせる。
