Nishapur (English spelling)
A city in Khorasan Province in northeastern Iran. In Persian it is called Neyshābūr. Population 59,101 (1976). Founded by Shapur I of the Sassanid Empire at the beginning of the 2nd century, it developed in the early Islamic period, and by the mid-11th century it had a population of 500,000 and flourished as the capital of Alp Arslan of the Seljuk Empire. It was completely destroyed by the Mongol army in the 13th century, but was rebuilt under the Timurid Empire. It is also famous as a producer of turquoise. [Masataka Oka]

No remains remain from the time of Shapur I, only the remains of Islamic capitals (such as Tepe Madrasah and Sabz Pushan) which were excavated in the 1930s.

 シャープール1世時代の遺構はなく,1930年代に発掘されたイスラム時代の都城址(テペ・メドレセやサブズ・プシャンなど)があるにすぎない。
