Japanese: ジャノメチョウ(蛇の目蝶) - ジャノメチョウ

A general term for insects belonging to the family Satyridae (English name: wood nymph) of the order Lepidoptera, or a single species of the family. The family is mainly made up of medium-sized species, with over 2,500 species in the world, and 26 species known in Japan, including the Satyridae (illustration), the Red Nymph (illustration), the Contrail (illustration), the Common Nymph (illustration), the Common Nymph (illustration), and the Black Nymph (illustration). Wingspan is 2.5 to 11 cm. Most are generally brownish and dull, but in South America, in particular, there are beautiful species with metallic luster such as blue or silver, and species whose scales have degenerated and the wings are transparent.
