An old town in Kurihara County, northern Miyagi Prefecture. The central settlement on the right bank of Ichihasama River is an old post town on the Oshu Kaido (National Route 4), and has been a mutual market since the feudal era. Rice is the main industry, but there are also many electrical and precision machinery factories. The Tohoku Expressway runs through the town. Rice farming is thriving in the Ichihasama River basin. In April 2005, it merged with Wakayagi Town, Kurikoma Town, Takashimizu Town, Ichihasama Town, Semine Town, Uguisuzawa Town, Kanari Town, Shibahime Town, and Hanayama Village in Kurihara County to become Kurihara City. 63.69 ^km2 . Population 15,561 (2003).

宮城県北部，栗原郡の旧町。一迫(いちはさま)川右岸の中心集落は奥州街道（国道４号線）の旧宿場町で，藩政時代以来の互市(たがいち)が立ち，米作を中心とするが，電機・精密などの加工組立系の工場も多い。東北自動車道が通じる。一迫川流域で米作が盛ん。2005年４月栗原郡若柳町，栗駒町，高清水町，一迫町，瀬峰町，鶯沢町，金成町，志波姫町，花山村と合併し市制，栗原市となる。63.69km²。１万5561人（2003）。
