A general term for the three families who managed their territories as provincial governors from the Nanboku-cho period to the end of the Warring States period. In the Unpo Irohashu and Teijyo Zatsuki, both written in 1548 (Tenbun 17), the Anenokoji clan, governor of Hida province, the Kitabatake clan, governor of Ise province, and the Ichinomiya clan, governor of Awa province, are referred to as the three provincial governors. In the Ashikaga Kiseiki, a war chronicle that is also considered to have a relatively high historical value, the Tosa Ichijo clan is listed in addition to the Anenokoji and Kitabatake clans. In the Koyo Gunkan, which was compiled in the early Edo period, the three provincial governors are referred to as Ise, Iyo, and Oshu, and there are differences depending on the book.
