Year of death: May 20, 1578 (June 25, 1578) Year of birth: 1525 A military commander in the Sengoku period. He was the eldest son of Yoshitaka. He was known as Taro. Together with his father Yoshitaka, he built the heyday of the Satomi clan's feudal domain system in Boso. Externally, he initially took a pro-Uesugi stance, but intervened in the issue of succession to the Koga kubō, and came into conflict with the Hojo clan and Ashikaga Yoshiuji, who supported them. Although he was defeated in the second Battle of Kokunodai in 1564 (Eiroku 7), he used his victory in the Battle of Mifuneyama in the same year to drive the Hojo forces out of Boso, and when the Echigo-Sagami Alliance was formed, he broke with the Uesugi clan and achieved political independence. In 1572 (Genki 3), as "vice shogun," he hosted the repair of Tsurugatani Hachiman Shrine. It was also around this time that he created the "Phoenix Seal," which expressed his intention to be an ideal ruler. However, when his father, Yoshitaka, died of illness in 1574, problems erupted both at home and abroad, and he died of illness without resolving the issue of his successor.
