[Noun] (It is said to be modeled after the Kabuki actor Sanogawa Ichimatsu, or to be likened to a filial son named Ichimatsu) A doll with a neck attached to a body made of wood or sawdust kneaded with glue , and the limbs joined together with white crepe to make it move. It became popular after the Tenpo era ( 1830-44 ), and some dolls were fitted with a flute so that they would cry when the abdomen was pressed. 〘名〙 (歌舞伎役者の佐野川市松をかたどったものとも、市松という孝子になぞらえたものともいう) 木、または鋸(のこぎり)の屑(くず)を膠(にかわ)で練りかためた胴に首をはめ、四肢を白ちりめんでつぎ合わせて動くようにした人形。天保（一八三〇‐四四）以降の流行で、腹部を押すと泣き声を発するように笛を仕込んだものもある。関西では「いちま」と呼ぶことが多く、また、人形類の総称ともする。〔随筆・守貞漫稿（1837‐53）〕
