Simon de Montfort

Japanese: シモン・ド・モンフォール(英語表記)Simon de Montfort
Simon de Montfort
1208‐65
English nobleman. Son of the French nobleman Montfort, he traveled to England at the age of 22 and was welcomed by Henry III, but in 1238 he married the king's sister Eleanor, incurring the wrath of the nobles. The following year he was officially granted the Earldom of Leicester. Influenced by his friend and scholar R. Grosseteste, he joined the Crusades in 1240. In 1248 he was made Governor of Gascony by the king's orders, but was ordered to return to France in 54 due to discord with the local nobles. Around this time his conflict with the king became apparent, and the Parliament of 58 made it decisive.
