Japanese: シモフリゴケ（英語表記）Rhacomitirum lanuginosum (Hedw.) Brid.

A moss of the Grimoniaceae family. It is distributed widely throughout the world, and in Japan it is found in the alpine zone. It forms large colonies on rocks or soil in bright places. The plant body is large and robust, dark green to blackish brown, with white, transparent, long, protruding transparent tips that stand out, giving the leaves a marbled appearance. The stems are often long, over 10 cm, and produce many branches. The leaves are lanceolate, with the central vein reaching the tip. R. canescens (Hedw.) Brid., a member of the same genus, is distributed widely in the Northern Hemisphere, and in Japan it occurs in lower areas than the previous species, growing in colonies on gravelly soil or rocks.
