Tributo (English spelling)

The poll tax system was implemented in the Philippines under Spanish colonial rule. The Spanish government used two systems, tributo and polo (forced labor), to exact harsh swindles from the Philippine population. Tributo was levied on each family or pair of adults (tributario), and the amount was eight silver reals per year when it was established in 1571, and roughly ten reals from the 17th century onwards. It was increased to 12 reals in 1851 and 14 reals in 1874, before being abolished in 1884.

スペイン植民地下のフィリピンで施行された人頭税制度。スペイン政庁はトリブート，ポーロpolo(強制労働)の二つの制度を用いて，フィリピン住民から過酷な収奪を行った。トリブートは1家族または成年に達した2人を一組とする貢納単位(トリブタリオ)ごとに課せられ，その額は制定時の1571年には1年につき銀8レアル，17世紀以降はおおむね10レアルであったが，1851年に12レアル，74年に14レアルに増額され，84年に廃止された。
