〘Noun〙 (formerly called "Ootachi")① A large sword. ※The Chronicles (720), before Buretsu ascended to the throne, a folk song: " With the Ohotachi hanging down, I stand without drawing it, I think I will meet you even if I die."② The name of the sword that grew longer and larger as the battles for arms intensified after the Kamakura period. ※Heike (early 13th century), chapter 11: "The o-dachi sword made of squid" ※The Kakitsu Monogatari (around 1492), "A large sword over six feet long is held up in the middle of the mountain."③ A large wooden sword that is dedicated by those who make a pilgrimage to Mt. 〘名〙 (古くは「おおたち」)① 大きな太刀。※書紀(720)武烈即位前・歌謡「飫裒陀(オホタチ)を垂れ佩(は)き立ちて、抜かずとも 末はたしても 会(あ)はむとぞ思ふ」② 鎌倉以後、打物(うちもの)合戦の激化につれて長大化した太刀の称。※平家(13C前)一一「いか物づくりの大太刀はき」※嘉吉物語(1492頃)「六尺余りの大たちをまっかうにさしかざし」③ 大山詣りの者が「大願成就」と書いて奉納する、大きな木太刀。前に納めた太刀と取り代えて持ち帰り、それを護符とした。納太刀(おさめだち)。※雑俳・柳多留‐一四(1779)「死ぬこっちゃないと大太刀持ってくる」④ (大太刀を佩(は)いて舞台に現われるところから) 市川流の荒事(あらごと)の異称。※雑俳・柳多留‐一二二(1833)「大太刀は市川流の家の株」
