A town in Kamikawa District, Hokkaido. With vast virgin forests in the Kitami Mountains, forestry is thriving, with lumber and woodworking industries. The lowlands along the Nayoro River, which runs west through the center of the town, are used for farming, producing potatoes and other crops. There is also a tenobe dried noodle factory.
