Balance of capital

Japanese: 資本収支 - しほんしゅうし（英語表記）balance of capital

This is an important balance of payments along with the current account, and records the changes in external assets and liabilities based on various capital transactions between residents and nonresidents. The capital account is divided into capital inflows and outflows, and when the total of inflows exceeds the total of outflows, the capital account is said to be in surplus, and when the opposite is true, it is said to be in deficit. However, a capital surplus means a decrease in the country's net external assets, while a capital deficit results in an increase in net external assets. Just as capital transactions are divided into long-term and short-term capital transactions, the capital account is also broadly divided into long-term and short-term capital accounts. 国際収支のうち経常収支と並んで重要な収支で，居住者が非居住者との間で行う各種の資本取引に基づく対外資産・負債の変動が計上される。資本収支は資本の流入と流出に分けられ，流入額の合計が流出額の合計をこえるとき，資本収支は黒字であるといい，逆の場合には赤字であるという。ただし資本収支の黒字は，その分だけその国の対外純資産の減少を意味し，反対に資本収支の赤字が対外純資産の増加をもたらすのである。資本取引が長期資本取引と短期資本取引に区分されるのに応じて，資本収支も長期資本収支と短期資本収支に大別される。 (→国際貸借 )
