Ainoyamabushi - Ainoyamabushi

Japanese:
Ainoyamabushi - Ainoyamabushi

This is a song that geisha (geisha girls) sang as a parlor song in the entertainment district of Ise City, Mie Prefecture. Its origin is unknown, but there is a hauta (traditional folk song) from the late Edo period called "Miya Mairi" (a shrine visit) with lyrics like "At Ise, Ujibashi Naiku Geku (naiku ugeku), Miyasuzume (miyasuzume) of the 80 sub-shrines, Osugidama and Ainoyama, the road continues to Shima-san, Kon-san, Hanairo-san and Iwakata-san, At Futamigaura, Asama-yama, Oumuseki, Isobe Bikuni, and Daidai Kagura, these are also thrown." The name "Ama no Yamabushi" was born when the "Miya Mairi" was sung enthusiastically by street performers "Osugi, Otama" (all street performers are called by this name) who set up huts in the mountains between the outer and inner shrines. This later spread to other provinces, and the Iyo-style version became "Iyobushi."
