[Born] Yeongjo 21 (1745) / Yeongjo 36 (1760) [Dead]? A painter at the Drawing Office in the late Yi Dynasty of Korea. His pen name was Shineng, and his pen names were Danwon, Dangui, Seohoo, and Zhu Zuiong. He painted landscapes, people, flowers, and birds, but he excelled in genre paintings, and many of his works remain, including "A Collection of Genre Paintings" (National Museum of Korea) and "Listening to a Nightingale on Horseback." His "Fighting Dogs," attributed to Kim Hong-do, is a realistic work that makes use of the shading of ink, and it shows the Western painting techniques that were introduced during the Qing dynasty.
