Atum

Japanese: アトゥム（英語表記）Atum

He was the creator god of ancient Egypt and the first of the nine gods of Heliopolis. According to Heliopolitan theology, he stood on the primordial hill (the Benben Stone in the Temple of Benu in the pyramid texts) and gave birth to Shu (god of air) and Tefnut (god of moisture) by spit or masturbating alone. Thus, he created order for the creation of the heavens and the earth from the chaotic sea of Nun. He merged with the sun god to become Kheperi-Ra-Atum, with Kheperi representing the young sun at sunrise, Ra representing the sun at the zenith that rules the world, and Atum representing the lifeless sun at sunset.

古代エジプトの創造神でヘリオポリスの九柱神の筆頭。ヘリオポリス神学によれば原初の丘(ピラミッド文書ではベヌ神殿の〈ベンベン石〉)に立ち，ただひとりでつばを飛ばし，ないしは自慰によってシュー(空気の神)とテフヌート(湿気の神)を生んだ。かくして無秩序な混沌の海ヌンより天地創造のための秩序を創り出した。太陽神と同化しケペリ･ラー･アトゥムとなり，日の出の若い太陽をケペリ，天頂にあって世界を支配する太陽をラー，日没の生気のない太陽をアトゥムが表した。
