Born: 1491 (4th year of the Koji period) [Died] 1521 (16th year of the Shōtoku Era) The 11th emperor of the Ming Dynasty of China (reigned 1506-21). His given name was Houzhao. His temple name was Wuzong. He was the eldest son of Emperor Hongzhi. He loved learning, was well versed in Buddhist Sanskrit, and was not a fool. However, as he grew older, he brought beautiful women into his harem and indulged in sexual pleasures. This led to the tyranny of the eunuch Liu Jin and the wicked minister Jiang Bin, who broke out into civil unrest in various places, and also led to rebellions by the imperial family, including those of King Anhua Shihuan and King Ning Chenhao. It was around this time that Portuguese ships began arriving, and he died amid much domestic and international trouble.
