Shibutami

Japanese: 渋民 - しぶたみ

This is a former village area in the northwest of Morioka City, in central Iwate Prefecture. Village organization was implemented in 1889. In 1954, it merged with Yabukawa Village and Tamayama Village to form Tamayama Village. In 2006, it was incorporated into Morioka City. It is famous as the birthplace of the poet Ishikawa Takuboku. It is a region rich in poetic sentiment, overlooking Mt. Iwate (2,038m) to the west and Mt. Himekami (1,124m) to the east, with the Kitakami River flowing through the center. It once flourished as a post station on the Ou Kaido (→ Oshu Kaido) and is home to Houtoku-ji Temple, where Takuboku spent his childhood, Shibutani Elementary School, where he was a substitute teacher, and the Ishikawa Takuboku Memorial Museum. The area has also been attracting businesses, and the Morioka Industrial Park is now located here.

岩手県中部，盛岡市北西部の旧村域。 1889年村制施行。 1954年藪川村，玉山村と合体し玉山村となる。 2006年盛岡市に編入。詩人石川啄木の出身地として有名。西に岩手山 (2038m) ，東に姫神山 (1124m) を望み，中央を北上川が流れる詩情豊かな地域。かつては奥羽街道 (→奥州街道 ) の宿駅として栄え，啄木が幼年時代を過ごした宝徳寺や代用教員時代の渋民小学校，石川啄木記念館などがある。企業誘致も進み，盛岡工業団地がある。
