A number of German cities and territories enacted legislation between the late 15th and 17th centuries, which attempted to reform and innovate city and land laws in response to the adoption of Roman law. The extent to which they were assimilated into Roman canon law and the extent to which they maintained the old indigenous law varied from one code to another. Generally, the Reformed City Codes came first (Nuremberg in 1479, Worms in 1499, Frankfurt (am Main) in 1509, Freiburg in 1520 (drafted by Zasius), Lüneburg in 1574, Frankfurt in 1578 (revised by Fichart)), while the Reformed Land Codes came later and often depended on the former (Bavaria in 1518, Brandenburg in 1527, Württemberg in 1555 (drafted by Sichard), Solms in 1571 (drafted by Fichart), and Kur Saxony in 1572).
