Kiga [Hot Spring] - Kiga

Japanese: 木賀[温泉] - きが

This hot spring is located in Hakone-machi, Ashigarashimo-gun, western Kanagawa Prefecture, along the Hayakawa River. Simple spring water, 38-91°C. It has been counted among the Seven Hot Springs of Hakone since the Edo period, and is a famous hot spring whose waters were presented to the Shogunate during the Shoho era (1644-48). The beauty of the Hayakawa River gorge is known as Kiga Valley, and is especially beautiful during the autumn foliage season. The Frenchman Le Bon, who came to Japan as an army instructor in the early Meiji period, often stayed here, and there is a monument to him. It flourished early along the Hakone Back Street, but due to the flooding of the Hayakawa River, it is now a small hot spring with only two inns.

神奈川県西部，足柄下郡箱根町にあり，早川に沿う温泉。単純泉，38～91℃。江戸時代から箱根七湯に数えられ，正保年間(1644‐48)には将軍家に湯が献上された名湯である。早川の峡谷美は木賀渓谷の名で知られ，紅葉の時期がとくによい。明治初期に陸軍教官として来日していたフランス人のルボンがしばしば滞在したところで，その記念碑がある。箱根裏街道に沿い早くから栄えたが，早川のはんらんなどで現在は旅館2軒のこぢんまりとした温泉になっている。
