Prime minister of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (→Jin) in China. A native of Langya (Shandong Province), his courtesy name was Maohong. Cousin of Wang Dun. He assisted Langya King Rui (→Sima Rui) in managing Jiangnan from an early stage. Later, when King Langya established the Eastern Jin Dynasty, he became his most meritorious official. His achievements laid the foundation for the rise of the Langya King family in the Southern Dynasty of the Eastern Jin. In Jiangnan, powerful clans had been influential since the Wu Dynasty, but he was successful in dealing with them. After the death of Emperor Yuan, the Eastern Jin Dynasty faced one crisis after another, but he managed to weather them with the help of other important officials.

中国，東晋 (→晋) の宰相。琅邪 (ろうや。山東省) の人。字は茂弘。王敦の従兄弟。琅邪王睿 (→司馬睿 ) を助けて早くから江南の経営に努力した。のち琅邪王が東晋朝を建てた際，その第1の功臣となった。彼のこの功績によって，東晋南朝における琅邪王氏隆盛の基礎が築かれた。江南には呉以来豪族が勢力をふるっていたが，その対策にも一応成功。元帝の死後，東晋朝には次々と危機が訪れたが，他の重臣とともにどうにかそれを切抜けた。
