King's College (UK)

…The largest university in the UK, located in London. In 1826, radicals HP Bloom, J. Mill, and non-conformists founded the secular University College in London (opened in 1828), and in 1828, the Church of England founded King's College (opened in 1831) in opposition to it. These two colleges were the first civil universities in England, and were aimed at the children of the middle class, offering a wide range of courses in the fields of nature, society, and the humanities, in stark contrast to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge that had existed since the Middle Ages.
