Sino-Tibetan

Japanese: シナ･チベット語族 - シナチベットごぞく（英語表記）Sino‐Tibetan

A large language family that is distributed over a vast area from Kashmir in India in the west, through Tibet and mainland China, to Taiwan in the east, and from Central Asia in the north to Southeast Asia in the south. It is also called the Han-Tibet family. In ancient times, it was called the Indo-Chinese family in contrast to the Indo-European family. It is said that there are about 300 languages in this family, including some whose details are unknown. There are thought to be other languages that have yet to be investigated, so the exact number of languages is unknown.

西はインドのカシミールから，チベット，中国大陸を経て，東の台湾に及び，北は中央アジア，南は東南アジアにわたる広大な地域に分布する一大語族。漢蔵語族ともいう。古くはインド･ヨーロッパ語族と対比して，インド･シナ語族Indo‐Chineseとも呼ばれた。この語族には約300の言語が所属するといわれるが，その中には詳細のわからない言語も含まれている。ほかに，なお未調査の言語もあると考えられ，正確な言語数はわからない。
