An old town on the coast of Kagoshima Bay on the Satsuma Peninsula in Ibusuki County, Kagoshima Prefecture. The Ibusuki-Makurazaki Line runs through the town. As a farming village near Kagoshima City, it produces rice, sweet potatoes, vegetables, etc. Many people commute to Kagoshima City. It has an oil storage base on reclaimed coastal land. It is a production area of Ryukyu Kogai (candel) (a special natural monument). In November 2004, it was incorporated into Kagoshima City along with Yoshida Town and Sakurajima Town in Kagoshima County, Matsumoto Town in Hioki County, and Koriyama Town. 61.15 km2 .
