Date of birth and death unknown. Author of Joruri Gidayubushi (Joruri gidayubushi) from the late Edo period. The son of a doctor, he worked as a tayu (courtesy performer) at the Toyotakeza theater, but after the theater left in 1765 (Meiwa 2), he built a theater near Kitahorie City and became the theater's director. He became a playwright two years later, and wrote more than 30 pieces over the next 20 years, many of which were collaborations, and he excelled in sewamono (domestic stories). His representative sewamono works include "Somemoyoimose no Kadomatsu," "Date Musume Koi no Higanoko," "Keisei Koi Hikyaku," and "Katsura River Renri no Shigarami," as well as his period piece "Setsubun Gappo Gatsuji." He displayed a great talent for adapting and revising previous works, and together with Chikamatsu Hanji of the Takemotoza theater, he decorated the final period of prosperity of Gidayu-bushi.
