One of the most representative organic reagents. Its correct name is diphenylthiocarbazone. It is a dark purple crystalline powder. It is practically insoluble in water and ethanol (ethyl alcohol), but is highly soluble in carbon tetrachloride and chloroform. The structural formula of the keto form is shown in . It reacts with heavy metal ions such as cadmium, silver, mercury, copper, zinc, and lead to form colored precipitates (yellow-brown, red, purple, etc.) of chelate complexes that are poorly soluble in water, so it is used to detect and separate heavy metal ions. In addition, the precipitates dissolve in chloroform, so they can be used for colorimetric determination. It is the most extensively studied of this type of reagent.[Kiyoshi Mutai] [References] | | | | |©Shogakukan "> Dithizone (keto form) structural formula (diagram) Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
