A general from around 693 to 716 during the Umayyad Dynasty, and conqueror of northwestern India (Sind). In 710, under the orders of Hajjaj bin Yusuf, governor of Iraq, he led an expedition from the Makran region to the mouth of the Indus River and captured Daibur. Using this city as a base, he advanced north up the Indus River and captured the holy city of Multan in the Punjab region in 713, but was relieved of his duties after the death of Hajjaj bin Yusuf and was escorted to Iraq where he died in prison.
