Shichiseisha - Shichiseisha

Japanese:
Shichiseisha - Shichiseisha

A right-wing student group formed in Tokyo Imperial University in February 1925 (Taisho 14) to counter progressive student movements such as the Shinjinkai. Led by Professor Uesugi Shinkichi, the group's platform was "Sincerity and Loyalty to the Country." At first, the group held weekly study meetings, monthly visits to shrines and historical sites, and invited senior members such as Tokonami Takejiro and Ogawa Heikichi to hold lectures. However, the group gradually became violent and often attacked new members. In 1928 (Showa 3), the group attacked a "speech meeting in defense of a high school debate tournament," leaving some seriously injured (Shichiseisha Incident). In 1932, in the Blood Brotherhood Incident, four members including Yotsumoto Yoshitaka were arrested and indicted for assassinating Saionji Kinmochi and others, shocking society. The group continued to hold lectures and other activities after that, but gradually died out around 1963.
