A term of Chinese and Japanese music theory. A sequence of seven tones (seven-tone scale) in one octave. In China, it refers to the first seven tones obtained by sanbun-sen-en, and as a result, it is a five-tone scale consisting of Gong, Shang, Jiao, Zheng, and Yu, with the addition of two tones, Henchi and Henkyu. The pitch relationship between each tone is equivalent to Fa, So, La, Si, Do, Re, Mi in Western music. Japanese Gagaku and Shomyo also adopted this theory, but the actual sequence is different, and is equivalent to So, La, Si, Do, Re, Mi, Fa. In addition, Ritsumei used its own name, and two tones, Ei Shang, a semitone higher than Shang, and Ei Yu, a semitone higher than Yu, were added, making it equivalent to Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Si, Do. However, in reality, not all seven tones are used, and sometimes only five of them are used. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
