...The origins of the school lie in three schools: the American Methodist Episcopal Church Girls' Elementary School (Azabu, founded in 1874), which was established in the early Meiji period, the Bikai Theological Seminary (founded in 1879) in Yokohama, and the Kokyo Gakusha (founded in 1878) in Tsukiji, Tokyo. These schools merged and developed, and in 1904 Aoyama Gakuin and Aoyama Jogakuin were each approved as professional schools. In 1927, the two schools merged to become Aoyama Gakuin, which became the direct predecessor of the university and junior college. ...
