A warrior of Mikawa Province. According to early modern legends, they are descendants of the Sugawara clan, but are believed to have been a branch of the Mikawa Tomo clan, a local government official. There is also a theory that the family name originated from Shitara-go, Shitara County (present-day Toei Town), but this is unclear. This is the first time they have been seen outside of a family tree, as Sukekane, who accompanied Minamoto no Yoshiie to the Gosannen War. There is a Shitara Hyodo warrior on Yoshitomo's side during the Hogen Rebellion. During the Kamakura period, along with the Tominaga clan, they were vassals of the Ashikaga clan, the Mikawa Shugo, and Tarobei Nyudo appears in the records of the Ashikaga clan's land magistrates. In the early Muromachi period, they appear in various records as attendants to the shogun, and were granted land in Hoki, Suo, and other areas.
