Year of death: July 10, 10th (August 13th, 696) Year of birth: Hakuchi 5 (654) A member of the imperial family in the late 7th century. Son of Emperor Tenmu and Amako no Musume, the daughter of Munekata no Kimi Tokuzen. Father of Prince Nagaya and Prince Suzuka. During the Jinshin War (672), he rushed to his father's side and played an active role in commanding the entire army. Kakinomoto no Hitomaro's elegy about this is found in Volume 2 of the Manyoshu. After the war, Tenmu ascended to the throne and had 10 sons, which made the succession to the throne an issue. Takaichi was the eldest son, but due to his mother's low social status, he was ranked second to Prince Kusakabe and Prince Otsu. In January of the 14th year of Tenmu (685), he was awarded the title of Jyohiro-ni, and in August of the 1st year of Shucho (686), he was given an additional 400 households, the same amount as Kusakabe and Otsu. After Tenmu's death, Otsu and Kusakabe died one after the other, and Empress Jitō ascended to the throne, and in July of the 4th year of Jitō (690), he became Grand Minister of State. In October of the same year, he inspected the land of Fujiwara Palace (Kashihara City), and assisted the Emperor as the head of the Imperial Family, playing an important role in the Imperial Court. His fiefdom was increased by 2,000 households in January of the 5th year, and by another 2,000 the following year, reaching 5,000 households. In January of the 7th year, he was promoted to Jōkōichi, but died in July of the 10th year. He was honored as Go-ōji-son in comparison to Prince Kusakabe. According to the Engishiki, his grave is the Mitateoka Tomb in Hirose County, Yamato Province. There is a place called Mitateyama in Koryō-chō, Nara Prefecture, but no grave is identified as the royal tomb. He is said to be the ancestor of the Takashina no Masato, Nagahara no Ason, and Toyono no Masato clans. Recently excavated wooden tablets of the Nagaya no Oke family have suggested that he may have inherited the household institutions from Prince Takichi.
