The correct name for this suit is an anti -G suit. It is a tight-fitting, trouser-like garment with an airbag on the inside, worn by crew members of fighter jets and other aircraft that make sudden movements. When an aircraft makes a sudden turn or pulls up, the acceleration caused by centrifugal force acts from the crew member's head to their feet, which can reach 7 G or more in a fighter jet. ( G or g is a unit of acceleration based on the gravitational acceleration of 9.8 m/ s2 . The acceleration itself is sometimes abbreviated to G. ) Although there are individual differences between people, when a force of about 6 G is applied from the head to the feet, blood does not flow sufficiently to the brain, causing symptoms such as blackouts, in which the eyes become temporarily blind.
