...The bay is a long, narrow inlet from east to west between the Ishimine and Sarakura mountain ranges. It used to be called Kukinoumi or Owatarigawa, and was a good fishing spot with shallows 3-4m deep and 1.5-2km wide, and lots of seaweed beds. The inner part of the bay is connected to the Ongagawa by the Egawa and Horikawa canals, which were completed in 1762 (the 12th year of the Horeki era). During the Edo period, Kurosaki on the south bank prospered as a port town, and Wakamatsu on the west bank of the bay mouth prospered as a shipping port for rice and coal for the feudal domain. *Some of the terminology that refers to the "Odo River" is listed below.
