〘Noun〙 In ancient times, the Hayato people lived in the Osumi region of Kagoshima Prefecture. In the latter half of the 5th century, they submitted to the Yamato Imperial Court, and served in the court in six-year rotations with the Satsuma Hayato. In the 11th year of Emperor Tenmu 's reign (682), they wrestled with Ata Hayato at the court and won. *Shoki (720), July, 11th year of Emperor Tenmu's reign: "Osumi Hayato and Ata Hayato wrestle at the court ." 〘名〙 古代、鹿児島県大隅地方に住んでいた隼人。五世紀後半大和朝廷に服属し、薩摩隼人と六年交替で朝廷に出仕。天武天皇一一年(六八二)朝廷で阿多隼人(あたのはやと)と相撲をして勝ったという。※書紀(720)天武一一年七月「大隅の隼人と阿多(あた)の隼人と、朝廷(みかど)に相撲(すまひと)る」
