A region in ancient Anatolia (present-day Turkey). The name was derived from the time when the Celtic people (Galati) invaded the central Anatolian plateau from the Hellespont (Dardanelles) in 278-277 BC, occupied the central Anatolian plateau, and plundered the native society for about half a century. The Pergamum Kingdom settled them on the former Phrygian land after 230 BC, and the Romans after 64 BC, forming a small kingdom including the cities of Ankara and Pessinus. The Galati were mainly involved in grain production and livestock farming using the natives, and the minority Galati held military power and formed the ruling class. The administrative district consisted of the three tribes of Trocmi, Tristbogyi, and Tectosages, and the council of the confederation had some judicial power. In 25 BC, with the death of the third king, Amyntas, it was incorporated into the Roman province. The state borders were often changed under the imperial government, but it came under the control of the Turks from the 11th century onwards. There are two theories about St. Paul's mission to Galatia (40s AD): the northern one and the southern one.
